Compositionally complex alloys—Toward the design of exceptional materials

个人简介:

王章维,中南大学特聘教授,入选国家海外高层次人才青年项目,德国马普学会钢铁研究所洪堡学者。2010年毕业于中南大学,获得工学学士学位。2017年毕业于美国达特茅斯学院,获得博士学位,导师为Ian Baker教授。2017年至2020年在德国马普学会钢铁研究所从事博士后研究,合作导师为德国科学院院士、马普钢铁所执行所长Dierk Raabe教授。2020年12月至今在中南大学粉末冶金国家重点实验室工作。研究方向包括轻质钢和高熵合金,在合金设计、表征技术、强韧化机制研究等领域取得了一系列突出的原创成果。以第一作者、共同第一作者及通讯作者在《Science Advances》、《Acta Materialia》等国内外学术刊物发表SCI论文20篇,授权美国专利1项。

讲座内容:

Compositionally complex alloys (CCAs), as disruptive alloy design strategies, have attracted considerable attention. In this talk, I will first briefly introduce the development of CCAs. Then I will focus on the strain hardening mechanism of CCAs, the so-called microband-induced plasticity, which overcomes the strength-ductility trade-off. I will further introduce the application of novel CCA concept to redesign conventional structural materials (e.g., lightweight steels), producing a new class of compositionally complex steels (CCSs). These CCSs not only exploit the massive solid solution strengthening provided by the multiple principal elements in the matrix, but also enable tuning the composition into phase regions where both nanosized shearable -carbides and non-shearable B2 particles exist, thus leading to excellent specific strength and ductility. The talk will provide new insights into designing exceptional materials.
